Dani Alves: I'll play in England next season

The 31-year-old defender says he will move to the "home of football" at the end of his contract at Camp Nou in June .

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves says he has agreed to join a Premier League club next season.

The 31-year-old was strongly linked with an exit from Camp Nou over the summer after entering the final 12 months of his contract in June.

The Brazil international, who has won 16 trophies at Barcelona since joining from Sevilla in 2008, is yet to receive an offer of a new deal and has now opted to embark upon a new chapter of his career.

"I am moving to England next year," he told Brazil's O Globo newspaper. "I am going to play in the home of football. This will be my last year at Barcelona."

Alves did not say which club he would play for, but the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the defender in the past.

Former Barca manager Pep Guardiola made Alves one of his first signings when he took over from Frank Rijkaard six years ago.

He had won five trophies in six years at Sevilla and continued his winning ways with the Blaugrana as he lifted La Liga and the Champions League in his first season.

Three more Liga titles have followed and Barca were crowned champions of Europe once again in 2011.

Alves has played 303 games for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 85 assists.

FC Barcelona Interested in Lukasz Piszczek

Be The First To Comment
FC Barcelona's final signing of the season is not Thomas Vermaelen. There is one more guy on the way.
And that guy could be Borussia Dortmund's Lukasz Piszczek, sources told Barça Blaugranes. Mundo Deportivo also reported the rumor. The Polish would be the alternative to Juan Cuadrado, who is too expensive for Barcelona, as Fiorentina wants €50 million for the signing of the Colombia winger. Dortmund's asking price for Piszczek is lower, and the Blaugrana could land the right-back for a fee of €32 million, according to sources.
The 29-year-old plays for Borussia since 2010, and is a Poland international. Piszczek is a solid defender and a good attacker, and gives his team a strong support in the right side. He is also a good passer, which would fit Barcelona's tiki-taka system.
This is only a rumor, for now. But Piszczek is a strong, reliable guy to play for Barça, Yes,Dani Alves is staying. But it's hard to expect him to extend his contract. Barcelona is now facing a transfer ban for the next window, and signing the Polish will keep the team with two right-backs when Dani leaves.
What do you think of this, Barça fans? Is Piszczek a good alternative to Cuadrado? Is it a good idea to pursue him?

I thank God that I can play with Messi - Rakitic

Ivan Rakitic says he has to "thank God" for the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona

The midfielder joined Barca from Sevilla this summer and has been in awe of the four-time Ballon d'Or winner in training, saying previously that the Argentina captain was "miraculous".

The Croatia star has heaped further praise on him, suggesting he can keep playing for decades to come and thanking God for the chance to be in the same team as him.

"Deco said the other day that Messi could play until he's 60. I say he could play until he is 70, or 80, or until he retires. I have to thank God for allowing me to play alongside him," he told Marca.

Rakitic also spoke highly of team-mate Neymar and coach Luis Enrique.

"I played against [Neymar] at the Brazil World Cup and despite his young age, he can change a game. His skills are amazing.

"As a coach, what you see is what you get [with Luis Enrique], he's a perfectionist and that's a good thing.

The 26-year-old admits his side face a difficult season, admitting Real Madrid and reigning champions Atletico will put good challenges for the title.

"Based on the past few years, it looks as though both Madrid clubs will be in the mix, although there could be the odd surprise. Every game is tough and it's always hard to win games."

He also revealed he had been invited by his former club to see them in action against Real in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night.

"They've invited me to the game in Cardiff. I have nothing against Real Madrid, but I'm a Sevilla fan."
